INSPIRATION
IRO, a celebration of my Japanese heritage, mirrors my journey of self-discovery across diverse cultures. It's a reflection of my roots revisited, much like the evolving tapestry of my identity.
IRO collection features 5 different pieces
All pieces are available for licensing and reselling. Find more information at the bottom of the page.
1. Konjou
Konjou, written 金青 in Japanese, literally means "gold blue". This ancient pigment was made from Azurite, which was a very precious mineral, just like gold.
2. Uraba-iro
Uraba-iro, written 裏葉色 in Japanese, literally means "colour of back side leaf" - the meaning sends a lovely message of finding beauty everywhere or that beauty might be hidden in unexpected places.
3. Yamabuki-iro
The Japanese term Yamabuki-iro, represented as 山吹色, translates to 'mountain breath color' - it is said to be named by a poet after seeing flowers swaying on the mountain, which looked like the mountain was breathing. The story symbolises the inspiration drawn from nature within Japanese culture.
4. Kurenai no Yashio
The name 紅の八塩, meaning 'saturated red of eight dyes,' traces its origin from the word safflower (紅), combined with eight (八) representing numerous rounds of dyeing and 塩 symbolizing both salt and the dyeing process. This exquisite color, born from the costly and intricate safflower dyeing method, became a 'forbidden color' during the Heian period (6th-10th century), a luxurious hue that stirred dreams and desires among the nobility.
5. Rikyucha
利休茶 - this Japanese tea (茶) colour was said to be loved by Rikyu (利休), who was a historical figure with the most profound influence on chanoyu, the Japanese "Way of Tea."
